Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association (CAVRA)

The Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association (CAVRA) is a voluntary Search & Rescue Team based in the area around Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

We have 2 teams 1 Based in Cardiff and the other at Atlantic College, near Llantwit Major, giving us a total of 55 people who are all volunteers and available 24/7.

We have our own 5.85 metre RIB that operates in Cardiff Bay, plus a Land Rover that is fully equipped with blue lights, siren, winch, as well as an array of rescue equipment.

 

We also have an amphibious all-terrain vehicle which can traverse through water, snow mud etc.

Specialist sections within the organisation include a dog section with Newfoundlands, St-Bernards, and Boxers.

A Swift water rescue section and flood relief team also exist as well as a specialist body recovery unit.

Defibillators and oxygen therapy equipment is carried, with all personnel being trained in first aid from basic first aid through to paramedics.

Line rescue equipment is also carried.

All personnel are CRB check, and trained in the use of radio equipment which can be used across the UK.

We have a memorandum of understanding with HMCG and Police, and have assisted the emergency services during the recent adverse weather conditions, during which we rescued 39 persons travelled over 800 miles and performed over 250 hours of voluntary service.
